The dodument cover requirements for electrically operated damper assemblies, that are intended for installation in the vent or chimney connector of automatically operated oil-fired appliances employing an atomizing type oil burner. The damper assembly is intended to restrict or block the connector opening when the burner is not firing. These requirements cover automatic vent or chimney connector dampers for oil-fired appliances having a flue gas temperature not in excess of 538 ?C (1000 ?F), unless marked for a lower temperature. The vent or chimney connector dampers covered under these requirements are not for use on oil-fired appliances that employ vaporizing type oil burners. Automatic vent or chimney connector dampers are intended for installation in accordance with the following standards of the National Fire Protection Association: a) Oil-Burning Equipment, NFPA 31. b) Chimneys, Fireplaces, and Vents, NFPA 211. c) National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70. A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
1.1 These requirements cover manual signaling boxes for fire alarm systems intended for permanentinstallation and used in ordinary locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and the National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 72.1.2 A manual signaling box is an assembly of a mechanism having electrical contacts designed totransmit a signal when an integral part is operated manually. The signaling contacts are intended to beconnected to circuits of fire alarm systems. The types of boxes covered by these requirements are coded boxes and non-coded boxes, including signaling boxes, fire and guard’s tour reporting stations, and guard’s tour reporting stations for suppressed-signal tour combinations.1.3 A manual signaling box having a pre-wound signaling mechanism and equipped with a trippingelectromagnet to permit automatic actuation by separate detectors, and similar combination devices, shall be evaluated with regard to compliance with the applicable requirements for both manual signaling boxes and electrically-actuated transmitters.1.4 A manual signaling box shall be constructed for use with system-control units, electrically-actuatedtransmitters, or similar units that will permit its application in compliance with applicable codes andstandards of the National Fire Protection Association.1.5 These requirements do not cover electrically-actuated transmitters.
These revisions are to the UL 296 proposals announced in the March 18, 2005 issue of ANSI's \"Standards Action.
1.1 These requirements cover vane type waterflow indicators intended for use in fire protective signaling systems to be employed in ordinary indoor locations, in accordance with the National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 72. 1.2 Waterflow indicators covered by these requirements include sizes 3/4 inch and larger. The indicator sizes refer to the nominal inside diameter of the main sprinkler pipe or tubing on which they are installed. 1.3 A vane type waterflow indicator is an assembly of a mechanism having electrical contacts arranged to transmit a coded or noncoded signal when the vane, located in the supply pipe (riser) of a sprinkler system, is moved by the flow of water in the pipe. This flow is normally caused by the opening of one or more sprinkler heads resulting from a fire condition. The signaling contacts are intended to be connected to circuits of private fire protective signaling systems. 1.4 These requirements do not cover pressure-operated waterflow indicators.
