This European Standard deals with the significant hazards relevant to food processing machines when used as intended or under conditions of reasonably foreseeable misuse. It deals with those risks which occur commonly at food processing machines and for which common technical requirements can be set. It is not applicable to: - food processing machines covered by other machine-specific standards or intended for domestic use; - packaging machines; - machines used in the agricultural and animal rearing sectors. The standard does not deal with hygiene risks to the consumer of the food product.

The method has been validated by collaborative study for aldicarb, carbofuran, furathiocarb, methomyl, oxamyl, propoxur and thiodicarb parent compounds and for the metabolites aldicarb sulfoxide, aldicarb sulfone and 3-hydroxy-carbofuran in tomatoes and oranges at levels between 0,04 mg/kg and 0,25 mg/kg. No collaborative data are available for the performance of the method in the determination of other significant compounds although it is known that the method is unsatisfactory for benfuracarb.
This International Standard specifies guidelines for the preparation of test samples from laboratory samples of animal feeding stuffs including pet foods. The guidelines mostly derive from those developed by AAFCO. The guidelines are overruled by special instructions and regulations for sample preparation demanded by specific analysis methods. Such analysis methods are developed by ISO and CEN. This international Standard does not include special guidelines for sample preparation for microbiological analysis of microorganisms like yeasts, bacteria and moulds. Nonetheless, for microorganisms which are used as feed additives (probiotics), some important aspects of sample preparation are addressed.
