This European Standard specifies requirements, methods of test and performance criteria against which thecompatibility of components and their performance can be assessed when used in combination to form anelectrically controlled hold-open system. It also specifies requirements for the integrity of such hold-opensystems when connected to fire detection and fire alarm systems or other systems, including the signalexchange and technical data for interfaces.This European Standard provides requirements for the application of electrically controlled hold-open systemsused for fire/smoke doors in buildings, where such doors are required to be self-closing. It covers planning,design (see Annex A), installation (see Annex B), commissioning, use and maintenance (see Annex E) ofhold-open systems, intended for the protection of life and/or the protection of property. This may also includehold-open systems, or components of the hold-open system, that are self-contained in a single enclosure.Electrically controlled hold-open systems manufactured, installed and serviced in accordance with thisEuropean Standard are recommended for use wherever there is a requirement for reliable hold-open andrelease of an individual self-closing fire/smoke door assembly in the case of fire.The use of hold-open systems for closures in conveyor systems conforming to EN 1366-7, which applies inconjunction with EN 1363-1, may require additional proof of suitability, which is not covered by this EuropeanStandard.This European Standard does not cover design, installation, commissioning, use and maintenance of buildingfire detection and fire alarm systems (covered by CEN/TS 54-14) but does cover the connection of hold-opensystems conforming to this European Standard to building fire detection and fire alarm systems, under certainprescribed conditions.This European Standard does not cover the requirements of performance characteristics and operationalenvironment conditions of particular components of a hold-open system, where these requirements arealready covered by European specifications, and which include appropriate test methods to assurereproducible test results for the product conformity assessment. These European Standards are referred to inClause 5.This European Standard does not cover electrically controlled systems used for smoke venting purposes orsystems that allow the door to remain open under fault conditions (i.e. not fail-safe).This European Standard does not cover electrically controlled hold-open systems that are not connected tomain power supply and are battery powered only.
This part of IEC 61131 specifies requirements and related tests for programmable controllers(PLCs) and their associated peripherals (for example, programming and debugging tools(PADTs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), etc.) which have as their intended use thecontrol and command of machines and industrial processes.PLCs and their associated peripherals are intended to be used in an industrial environmentand may be provided as open or enclosed equipment. If a PLC or its associated peripheralsare intended for use in other environments (light industrial, commercial, residential), then thespecific requirements, standards and installation practices for those other environmentsshould be additionally applied to the PLC and its associated peripherals.This standard also applies to any products performing the function of PLCs and/or theirassociated peripherals.Equipment covered in this standard is intended for use in overvoltage category II (IEC 60664-1)in low-voltage installations, where the rated equipment supply voltage does not exceed a.c.1 000 V r.m.s. (50/60 Hz), or d.c. 1 500 V. (If PLCs or their associated peripherals are appliedin overvoltage category III installations, then additional analysis will be required to determinethe suitability of the equipment for those applications.)This standard does not deal with the functional safety or other aspects of the overallautomated system. PLCs, their application programme and their associated peripherals areconsidered as components of a control system.Since PLCs are component devices, safety considerations for the overall automated systemincluding installation and application are beyond the scope of this standard. Refer toIEC 60364-1 or applicable national/local regulations for electrical installation and guidelines.However, PLC safety as related to electric shock and fire hazards, electrical interferenceimmunity and error detecting of the PLC-system operation (such as the use of parity checking,self-testing diagnostics, etc.), are addressed.This standard also specifiesa) service, storage and transportation requirements for PLCs and their associatedperipherals (Clause 4);b) functional requirements for PLCs and their associated peripherals (Clause 5);c) EMC requirements for PLCs and their associated peripherals (Clause 8);
Application of protective relays on transmission-line series capacitor banks is covered. Purpose is to provide the reader with ample discussion of the protection and control issues related to series capacitor bank installations.
