Materials may then be ranked by comparing heat transfer indices, which provide an indication of the relative heat transmission under the specified test conditions. They do not permit conclusions to be drawn with respect tocontacts with large splashes of molten cast iron or other metal, nor do they allow the behaviour of completegarments under industrial conditions to be predicted.
